Call for Applications: Training Course on Managing Gender-Based Violence in Emergencies




The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), International Medical Corps, and Human Rights Education Associates (HREA) are offering a five-day training course on Managing Gender-Based Violence Programs in Emergencies.
The aim of the program is to build both technical knowledge of gender-based violence (GBV) and practical skills in program design and management by funding from the U.S. Department of State, Bureau for Population, Refugees, and Migration. The course will provide participants with hands-on, practical skills that field practitioners can use to design and manage their programs, with the ultimate aim of expanding and strengthening the pool of skilled professionals working in the field of GBV programming.
This course builds on the Managing Gender-based Violence Programs in Emergencies e-learning course.
Training Topics
The Training topics include:
  • understanding GBV in Emergency Settings;
  • GBV Programme Models and Approaches;
  • assessment and Participatory Methods;
  • the “GBV Toolkit”— advocacy, case management, behaviour change, human resources, programme planning and design;
  • GBV and other sectors—health, psychosocial, security, justice/rule of law.
Benefits
  • Participants who successfully complete the training will receive a Certificate of Completion, issued by UNFPA and International Medical Corps.
  • Costs associated with attendance at this course will be covered by the workshop organizers, to include: airfare, lodging, transportation between the airport and the workshop site, and meals. As this is a residential course, all participants are expected to stay at the workshop venue.
Eligibility criteria
Eligibility requirements include the following:
  • Successful completion of the Managing Gender-based Violence Programs in Emergencies e-learning course prior to coming to in-person training;
  • Demonstrated experience and/or commitment to GBV programming
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Working knowledge of English, and working knowledge of a second language is an asset/preferred;
  • Employer’s commitment to GBV programming and your continuing professional development.
How to Apply
Applicants are required to submit the following:
  • The attached application form;
  • CV;
  • One letter of reference from a supervisor/manager/professor explaining:
    • The applicant’s qualifications (professional, interpersonal) for taking this course, including proof of commitment by the supervisor that the applicant is currently (or will be) engaged in substantive, relevant programming related to GBV;
    • The supervisor’s expectations of the applicant upon his/her return to the field;
    • The role the supervisor will take to support the applicant after the course to utilize knowledge and skills gained, and to transfer this knowledge to others.
