CALL FOR APPLICATIONS – 2015 MILEAD FELLOWSHIP



Moremi Initiative for Women’s Leadership in Africa (Moremi Initiative) hereby announces its annual call for applications for the 2015 MILEAD [Moremi Initiative Leadership Empowerment and Development] Fellows Program- to identify 25 of Africa’s most outstanding emerging women leaders.  

The MILEAD Fellows Program is a long-term leadership development program designed to identify, develop and promote emerging young African Women leaders to attain and thrive in leadership in their community and Africa as a whole.The program targets dynamic young women interested in developing transformational leadership skills that help them address issues facing women and girls across communities in Africa. The MILEAD Program equips Fellows with the world class knowledge, skills, values and networks they need to succeed as 21st century women leaders. Applications are invited from young African women between 19 – 25 years of age, living in Africa and the Diaspora.

The MILEAD Fellowship will be awarded to 25 outstanding young women who have exhibited leadership potential in their community, organization, and/or profession. To be eligible for the program, an applicant must be African, living on the continent or in the Diaspora; agree to participate in all required activities related to MILEAD – beginning with a three-week residential Summer Institute in Ghana; and commit to a community change project. Specific requirements of the program and related dates are outlined in the application package. Please review program and application guidelines carefully, before completing your application.

Please note that this one year program is not a full-time fellowship. Selected candidates may remain full time students or work full time for the program duration, except during the 3–week summer institute. The 3-week summer institute is an intensive and full-time residential program and all fellows will be required to attend. The rest of the program involves community-based, online and other distance activities.

Laureate Global Fellowship



The 2015 Laureate Global Fellowship application is open through March 25th.


About the Fellowship
Sponsored by the Sylvan/Laureate Foundation, the Laureate Global Fellowship annually recognizes 20 young leaders who have pioneered solutions to urgent challenges in their communities and beyond. Fellows develop leadership expertise and deepen their impact through a dynamic, yearlong learning experience, and join a network of over 1,000 change-makers like
them who continue to benefit from learning opportunities and
connections throughout their social change careers. Learn more

Eligibility
Applicants must be:
  • 18 – 29 years old as of October 1, 2015
  • Founders or co-founders of existing ventures with at least one year of impact
  • Fluent in English (applications must be completed in English)
Key Dates
  • Application opens on February 11, 2015
  • Applications must be submitted by March 25, 2015 at midnight EDT
  • All applicants will be notified of their status by June 12, 2015
  • The leadership training and public event will take place October 2-8, 2015 in Washington, DC

VV Grow Fellowship-Economic Empowermet



Vital Voices identifies high potential yet underserved women-owned small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are on the cusp of growth as the “missing middle” in the global economy. Based on its experience with women business owners around the world, Vital Voices has launched the VV GROW Fellowship Program, a one-year competitive program to support growth-oriented women business owners to take their businesses and leadership to the next level. The program supports women-owned enterprises in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), to set and achieve business growth goals with a unique blend of online learning, in-person training, and tailored support services.  

VV GROW Fellows will gain knowledge and skills in the following topics:
  • Planning for Growth
Guides participants in validating their business growth goals and developing a plan to achieve those goals. By the end of the workshop, participants will have an actionable 1-year plan to achieve their medium-to-long term business growth goals.
  • Leadership Training
Utilizes the Vital Voices Leadership Model to instill methods of building leadership skills to positively impact their business, employees and wider community.
  • Executive Financial Management
Equips participants with the skills and knowledge to analyze, manage, and supervise the finances of their business. 
  • Networking for Business Professionals
Guides participants to promote their business and successfully utilize new connections.
  • Understanding Your Market
Guides participants in identifying key market opportunities such as expanding existing markets and accessing new ones.
The one-year program timeline consists of 4 components:
  • A  competitive participant selection process and business needs assessment
  • Virtual Training: 4-6 months including a mix of online learning via webinars and Harvard Manage Mentor; network building via webinars and peer/small group calls; updates of key business tools such as the SWOT, the Business Model Canvas, and key financial statements
  • In-Person Training: 4-day in-person trainings in each region, LAC, MENA, and SSA featuring group sessions, one-on-one advising, and networking opportunities
  • Growth Services and Support: 5-6 months of tailored services such as small grants (potential), one-on-one advising, technical assistance, and Harvard Manage Mentor
Implemented at the regional level, the program is localized to ensure that the program is applicable to women business owners and the business environments in which they operate. 
Who can apply?
Vital Voices is seeking applications from women business owners from Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East and North Africa, who: 
  • Own a businesses that has been in operation for at least 3 years,
  • Employ at least 3 staff (including temporary and/or seasonal workers), and
  • Generate at least USD $40,000 in annual sales
As an interested applicant, you:
  • Are motivated to build the skills and make the changes needed to grow your business,
  • Are excited to participate in a one year program including on-line and in-person training and access to business growth opportunities, and
  • Recognize the value of and participate in the tracking of the growth of your business for up to 2 years through methods such as surveys, calls, or additional opportunities.

Your personal and business information will remain confidential. Individual responses are only seen by Vital Voices staff and VV GROW Trainers. Individual responses will be used solely for program participant selection, program tailoring and monitoring and evaluation.

Are you passionate about gender equality and women's economic empowerment? Do you want to apply your skills to make a difference in your own community and beyond? Do you have access to the internet? 

UN Women's EmpowerWomen.org  is seeking applications from dynamic and creative women and men from all over the world to champion women’s economic empowerment. Apply now to become a Global Community Champion.

Who is eligible? Individual women and men, as well as organizations, from different professional backgrounds and skill sets. Students are also encouraged to apply.

What are the benefits? Visibility on a global platform with 100,000+ visitors; networking with 4,000+ peers and experts; and leadership and learning opportunities (e.g. through learning webinars, online discussions, blog posts, and much more).

What will a champion do? Contribute with their expertise, skills, and knowledge to promote women’s economic empowerment online and offline. Champions will actively participate and lead online discussions; contribute blog posts; share relevant resources; invite networks to join; and explore innovative tools and solutions for women’s economic empowerment.

What is the time commitment? About four to five hours per week for six months.

Will there be funding available? Participation is on a voluntary basis. No funds will be available to cover the costs of the participation of individuals and organizations.

What are the deadlines?  All applications should be submitted by 4 February 2015 5pm EST (New York Time). 

On 9 February 2015, we will invite all eligible applicants to enter a one month rally. The purpose of this rally is for applicants to demonstrate how dynamic, creative and passionate they are in championing women’s economic empowerment in their community.

On 9 March 2015, EmpowerWomen.org will announce the names of the selected Global Community Champions. The Champions will submit an activity plan and work closely with the EmpowerWomen.org team for a period of five months to put the plan into practice.
 

How many champions will be selected? We select a number of champions that our team can closely support. In the first round we selected 29 champions out of 150 applicants. In the most recent round, we selected 44 champions out of 800 applications. And we can accommodate more this time.

Can I still participate in the EmpowerWomen.org activities if I don't apply? Yes, you are encouraged to participate in all of the EmpowerWomen.org online discussions and activities. You only need to login to start engaging and contributing to EmpowerWomen.org.
