Blood Drive Event
Join Us as we make Cancer See Red!
The Women for Cancer Blood Drive 7th – 11th August 2013
The facts:-
·
Approximately 7.6 Million people
globally died of cancer in 2005 and an estimated 84 million will die by 2015 if
action is not taken.
·
More than 70% of cancer deaths occur
in low & middle-income countries, where there are limited resources for
prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
·
80% of reported cases of cancer are
diagnosed at advanced stages, yet 30% of treatable cancers can be cured if
detected early.
The Blood Drive has
been initiated because there is a massive shortage of blood for transfusion in
Kenya. Weekly, Nairobi County requires 1400 pints, but only gets approximately
77% of this per week.
Because of this
shortage, priority is given to casualty patients, child bearing mothers and
other “urgent” cases...cancer patients who require blood transfusion before
receiving their chemotherapy treatment are often not a priority.
In Kenya, 80%
of current blood donors are students. With the school holidays in August,
the blood bank deficit will definitely be higher. Help us reduce this deficit
by participating in our blood drive. Our younger brothers and sisters are
playing their part and so should we. By donating blood, you are giving
a cancer patient a fighting chance. Join us in getting others to act now!
Invite all your friends,
workmates, colleagues, clients, family members & relatives for the blood
drive.
